Speaker: Dr. Muhammad Syafii Antonio

Background of Speaker:

Dr. Muhammad Syafii Antonio is a renowned Islamic Banking expert from Indonesia, and has over 16 years of experience in the field. He holds Ph.D in Finance from University of Melbourne, obtained Masters of Economic from International Islamic University Malaysia and first degree in Islamic Law from University of Jordan and Islamic Studies Program from Al Azhar University, Cairo. He has published nine books on Islamic banking, economics, zakat and leadership. Currently, he serves as Board of Commissioner and Shariah Advisor in several Islamic financial institutions, as well as member of Indonesian Central Bank’s Expert Committee on Islamic Banking and National Shariah Council.
At International House, UC Berkeley, Dr. Syafii Antonio will present an overview of Islamic Economics, Banking, and Finance and will highlight Indonesia’s experience in establishing such system.

This event is free of charge and open to the public.

Global Islamic Finance Forum (GIFF)

This is to announce that the second Global Islamic Finance Forum (GIFF) is being held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The event which is themed “Islamic Finance: Opportunities for Tomorrow”, will run from today until 28 October 2010.To the uninitiated, GIFF 2010 is a key international event in the calendar of Islamic finance following the success of the inaugural GIFF in March 2007. IFSB – FSC/FSS of Korea to organise Seminar on Islamic Finance in Seoul

  • The Islamic Financial Services Board will be organizing a seminar on Islamic finance next January in Seoul. It will collaborate with the Financial Services Commission/Financial Supervisory Service of Korea to create awareness of Islamic finance in Korea.

Kuala Lumpur, December 3, 2008 – The Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB) is organising a Seminar on Islamic Finance on 13 – 14 January 2009 in Seoul, Korea. The Seminar, which is the first for the IFSB in Korea, is co-organised with the Financial Services Commission/Financial Supervisory Service of Korea. The Seminar aims to create awareness of Islamic finance in Korea to facilitate sufficient recognition among its financial community, as well as to highlight the industry’s potential opportunities in the country.

Bahrain to Host Islamic Banking Meet

  • The 15th Annual World Islamic Banking Conference (WIBC) will be held next month  in Bahrain, supported by the Central Bank of Bahrain.  The event has  confirmed participation from more than 1,000 delegates from 45 countries with prominent keynote speakers include Rasheed M. Al Maraj, the Governor of The Central Bank of Bahrain, and Heng Swee Keat, Governor of the Monetary Authority of Singapore. The highlight of the event will be its prestigious Islamic Banker of the Year Award.

MANAMA -Bahrain will host the 15th Annual World Islamic Banking Conference (WIBC) next month that will bring together international industry leaders who have contributed significantly to forging the future of this industry to map out the next phase of development.

David McLean, the Managing Director of MEGA, the owners of the WIBC brand told Khaleej Times on Friday that WIBC will be celebrating 15 years of success in bringing together the industry’s thought leaders and foremost practitioners to chart the future direction of the industry.
